The universal adage of buy low and sell high carries over to online trading. Since we’re looking at selling collections it is assumed you are selling things you bought from someone previously. The best way to make a profit selling online is to be extremely knowledgeable about the category that you are selling.

For example, we’ll look at vinyl records. Records are sold everywhere, from music stores to garage sales. Not everyone that sells a record is an expert on the subject, so it stands to reason that there are valuable records that are being unknowingly sold for pennies on the dollar. If you’re looking at making some money selling vinyl records online you need a working knowledge of what albums are worth money and their going rates. You would also need to know how to recognize the condition of the record and of the sleeve, or that maybe the sleeve is worth more than the record itself. By being knowledgeable on the subject you know that there are five albums in that stack of dollar records that you can sell for five dollars each.

It’s rare that you find an absolute gem for a ridiculous price, but sometimes that’s what keeps you hunting for deals. However, it’s the small scores you can spot at a yard sale that will keep the money coming in from selling online.
